Oregon Coast Whale Watching
Every year, people who visit or live on the Oregon Coast have a chance to see one of the most amazing and beautiful sights – the annual migration of gray whales. Summer whale watching is from June to October, when whales are close to shore. Peak times are August, September, and October. Other whale watching times are winter and spring.
Tourists and lucky residents who live in Oregon can witness this trip and the amazing size and beauty of these mammals. It is an experience not to be missed.
Whale watching cruises and charter boats are available, as are many trained volunteers who can answer visitors’ questions about whales and also can point to top sites for whale watching during the migration periods. The volunteers are part of the Whale Watching Spoken Here program.
Binoculars, though not necessary, do come in handy. It is quite exciting to see the whales’ spout, many times visible from shore, when they surface to breath. Whale watching on the Oregon Coast is a fun and enjoyable activity for the whole family.
