Oregon Coast Cities
Several Oregon Coast cities dot the beautiful coastline. Major cities, from north to south are: Astoria, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Lincoln City, Depoe Bay, Newport, Waldport, Yachats, Florence, North Bend, Coos Bay, Bandon, Brookings.
Everybody has their favorites. Newport, Waldport and Florence are on our list.
The reasons we like these 3 the most are: their inherent beauty, the amenities they provide, and the ease of getting around in them.
Newport: Newport Oregon, population 9500. Swells to 3 times that size during the tourist season.
And Newport can handle it. It is well designed, with 4 lanes of Highway 101 (2 each direction) and a few alternative routes (known mostly by the locals), which parallel the highway. Take the Newport Oregon Photo Tour.
Waldport: Waldport Oregon, population 2000. Small, really, as Oregon Coast towns go, but feels good. A gorgeous bridge crosses the Alsea River, which widens as it approaches the ocean. The city has recently undergone a renovation: new sidewalks, flower planters, benches, new paint on some of the shops along Highway 101, as it traverses the small downtown area. Beautiful ocean and bay views from the city area. Nice walking along the bay and on the bridge. Take the Waldport Oregon Photo Tour.
Florence: Florence Oregon, population approximately 8300. Larger than Waldport, Florence has a flat topography. The sand dunes are a big attraction there and Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area is very popular, located to the west of town, on the shoreline.
Florence also features the Siuslaw River, which comes out to the sea at the south part of town. Nearby Honeyman State Park is a great outdoor and water recreation area. Florence Oregon Pictures.
